Hi! I'm Vex, a TTRPG writer from London, England.
I'm currently working on In Golden Flame, a full-length campaign for the Lancer tabletop roleplaying system.
Between the utopian core worlds of Union and the new frontier of the Dawnline Shore lies the Long Rim, a vast stretch of barren stars with no habitable worlds. There was nothing for humanity in the Rim but dust, ash and ice, an interstellar wasteland travellers had to pass through to get from one paradise to another.
When the Coldstar expedition returned to corespace with news of a system harbouring not one, but two habitable planets, the galactic powers rushed to colonize it. This was the ultimate layover spot, the oasis in the desert. This would be the stepping stone, the staging point from which the Dawnline Shore's colonization would kick into high gear.
Ten years later, when the first colonists arrived, they found Calliope barren, the Coldstar's report mistaken. Worse, faster-than-light communication was somehow blocked, so they couldn't ask for advice or assistance. With no other option, they took the supplies they had and turned them into makeshift space stations and orbital habitats, or built outposts in the barren soil of the system's lifeless worlds.
That was three hundred years ago. A lot's happened since then: there was a second wave of colonists, a brief, false golden age, and a long, deep silence afterwards. This is Calliope, the system colonised by mistake, sustained by greed and then rotted by neglect. But as much as it sucks out here, it's your home.
And something terrifying just showed up to threaten it.
